In 1979 I took what was the garage at our new home in Gloucester, MA and turned it into my studio and a small showroom for my work. John Baymore designed my 65 cubic foot cross-draft propane-fired car kiln. The car is loaded with pots inside my studio and then rolled outside into the body of the kiln for the firing. Twenty-five years later it is still the best kiln (and easiest to load) I have ever used. Working at my wheel or glazing table I can look out at the Mill River, which is always changing with the tides. I mark the seasons by the arrival of the swimming and diving buffleheads in the fall and winter, and then by the herons and egrets of the spring and summer.
